BELTUR GENERAL MANAGER

OSMAN CENK AKIN

Dear Istanbul residents,

As you are well-aware, 2021 has been a year in which the effects of Covid-19 pandemic continued and even filled the agenda with its various variants. Although Covid-19 entered the lives of Turkish people as of March 2020, its economic, psychological and social effects continued all over the world in 2021, and it still continues in the days we write these lines.

While the global raw material and logistics crises affected the costs very negatively, the fluctuations in foreign exchange rates necessitated significant changes in the way we do business due to rising energy and importation costs.

As Beltur and its gastronomy sector stakeholders, we remain completely closed in the first half of 2021 until June, and we remained closed every day after 19.00 and all day on Sundays in June. As of July, we opened with partial measures. This situation inevitably reflected negatively on all our incomes. Our costs were also adversely affected by the unpredictable upward trend of the exchange rate from January 2021 to January 2022. It became impossible for us to control our annual targets.

HOWEVER, WE DID NOT SIT
IDLE DURING THIS PERIOD

Considering that 2022 will be the year of adaptation, savings and efficiency, we first strengthened our control mechanisms in 2021. We changed our point-of-sale (POS) system and reporting infrastructure. We have updated our inventory of fixed assets. While increasing our capacity by improving our production points, we have taken important steps in terms of employee productivity, which we have supported with trainings.

We have developed many new products in line with our mission of offering the highest quality to Istanbulites at the most affordable price.

We have finalized our corporate identity work. We strengthened our communication in all channels, especially in social media.

We created and implemented four new Beltur concepts: Beltur Burger, Beltur Ice Cream, Beltur Cafe Plus and Beltur Pop-up restaurants. In addition to this, within our current structure, we have mainly provided Ottoman cuisine, cuisines of minorities and the palace in our restaurants, and included vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free products as well as healthy sports foods in our product range in all our establishments, including our cafes.

We launched our recycling and sustainability works targeting efficiency and our menus with the trainings we received from the veteran chefs of the sector. Use of bio-pipettes, disposable bamboo cutlery, waste controls and composting are just a few of these works. In this report, You will also read information about many of our new locations that we have added to our existing network. The innovations will continue in 2022 and beyond.

Beltur stood up to all the negativities of 2021 and, as an innovative, affordable, clean, healthy and most reliable brand, offered the quality deserved by Istanbulites, and will continue to do so with the same awareness and desire. I hope the good days that we will improve our profitability and solidify our foundation will come very soon...

I would like to thank primarily the people of Istanbul, who believed in and supported us in the work we have done and in all the projects we aim to implement in the coming period, then our Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, and our members of the board of directors, as well as all our colleagues who brought Beltur Incorporated to where it is today with their devoted work; I wish you days full of health and success.
